Why use flashcards or sit inside practicing words when you can get outside, play, get fresh air and learn new words at the same time?
Sam went back to school today so Avery and I got some alone time. We headed outside to see what we could find and see what new words we could learn.
leaf
stick
flower
spider web
bush

We had a blast just running around the backyard finding things and practicing words. Avery is like a sponge right now just soaking up whatever words she can. They don't always sound perfect but she tries and I love it. This stage goes by so quickly but is SO much fun!!

The Nitty Gritty!
This is the most simple form of a scavenger hunt. I would simply ask her if she could find something and she would run around until she found it. Then we would talk about it and practice saying the word.
If you work at a daycare center with 1 - 2 year olds you could do a similar outdoor activitiy telling the whole group of kids to try and each find something. This kind of outdoor activity is great learning, great exercise and great fun!
