I am pulling out a bunch of our past activities that I think will be good for in the car.
Here is what Sam will find in her little backpack that will be next to her in the seat -
- The flower matching game.
- Both sets of paper puppets. The books that go with the puppets will also be in there.
- The "I-Spy Alphabet Bottle" with new sheets of words for her to spell.
- The Identiflyer. Yes, slightly annoying in the car after a while but a great little learning toy for both girls.
- Animal finger puppets.
- Lots of books.
Hoping that the girls will be able to do the puppets together and entertain each other that way. I know this stuff won't keep Sam and Avery occupied the whole time but combine all of that with books, crayons and a coloring book and lots of snacks, and I think we will be okay!

The Nitty Gritty!
How do you keep your kids entertained in the car? And how much different are your car rides now as an adult with children than your car rides were as a kid with your parents?
When we would travel as a kid we had a BIG station wagon, would lay all the seats down and my sister and I had a huge bed area in the back. We did cross country trips this way, stopping to camp along the way. But we could move around, play games and were rarely ever buckled. It wasn't until we got a van in middle school/high school that we were wearing seat belts and staying in our seats! That would all be unthinkable now.
You have the best activities! Thanks for sharing!

Perfect! I just drafted a post about what we are packing for our upcoming car journey, and now I'm going to pinch some of your ideas too! :-p

I've been pretty slack at having activities organised for the car. It takes a bit of thought, but it pays off in the end. I think I'll be using some of your activities, too.
