Found a fun site this morning and just couldn't resist making some paper puppets today to go along with Avery's favorite books right now.
We made the Itsy Bitsy Spider ones.
And the Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? ones.
Then we played with the puppets trying to hold each one up as we mentioned it in the story. Sam "read" the stories and Averd and I did the puppets.
Please excuse the 80s style bangs my daughter is ROCKING in this photo. I wonder sometimes how she sleeps that creates hair like this!
Then it was Sam's turn to do the puppets while Avery and I read.
It was a great way to bring the books to life! More information on how we made them in the Nitty Gritty. And ways to connect them to your outdoor play.
What happened next has nothing to do with learning or being green it was just hilarious. Puppet play turned into chasing play!
Just too funny, I had to share.
Happy Friday!

The Nitty Gritty!
So I printed the images straight from the Best Toys for Toddlers site. I cut them out and glued them to some cardboard; I cut up cereal and cracker boxes from our recycling. Then we hot glued bent pipe cleaners to the back to be the handles. I think crafting wood sticks or skewers would work better but we didn't have those. The kids had a blast with these today.
Some extensions to the puppet play and book reading -
While you are outside on a walk play a version of "I-Spy". But instead of "I-Spy" say "Mommy, Mommy What do you see? I see a _____ looking at me." And then just take turns spotting colorful things in nature.
For Itsy Bitsy Spider if you are in the right season (which we are not) you could then do a spider and/or spider web hunt outside. Sam loves looking for spider webs, not so much looking for the spiders!
Did you see the Waste post from earlier today? Check it out and get involved!
