While I sit hear listening to a howling wind outside that is blowing in a blizzard said to give us around 15 more inches of snow by morning I am thinking spring.
I am ready to be done with snow and breaking ground on our garden.
Planting seeds in the ground as soon as the last frost is done.
The girls will play a role in every step of our gardening process and the first step occurred today. Picking out which plants to grow and ordering the seeds. Sam chose carrotts, green peppers (the sweet ones), green beans and tomatos. I have no idea how difficult these things will be to grow but they are all things the girls love to eat and Sam really did pick them out herself. So, I am open and ready to try.
Are you still embracing the winter or are you ready for spring too?

We've been making lists of what we want to plant this year too! I should order a seed catalog to look through- maybe Eva could cut out the pictures and we could "plant" a pretend garden to tide us over.

I would suggest starting the tomatoes and peppers inside first. Beans grow fast enough that you don't really have to start them early. We really can't plant outside here in WI safely until the middle of May. It can still be fun to start the seeds inside and watch them grow, then transplant them into your garden. Or make a mini indoor greenhouse. They have lots of kits available. Good luck! PS...I've seen plenty of flip flops and swimwear at the stores lately. I just roll my eyes. C'mon Blizzard!!!

All I could think looking at this is that you are a brave woman to give a child a sharpie on the carpet!

She is a courageous woman give a child an understanding of the carpet. We really can not plant here in WI probably until mid-May. It can even be fun to start seeds indoors and watch them grow, transplant them into your garden. Or make a mini greenhouse inside.

I need to do this. I want to grow a veggie garden for the first time! Last weekend I got about 10 books out from the library on organic gardening, permaculture, and growing vegetables in my area. So I am soaking it in. I too, want to pass these skills on to my children. In the worst case scenario, they will be prepared for an uncertain future with an uncertain food supply... In the meantime, we will just have fun and get dirty in the garden. :)

I can't wait to plant a garden I think we are just doing flowers this time and buying a share in a local farmers farm for produce.
