I have been seeing a lot of great winter themed books out there right now. So I thought we would jump on the bandwagon and share some of what we are in love with right now.
First off for Avery we have In My Forest, by Sara Gillingham and Lorena Siminovich.
This one is adorable. It has a built in finger puppet that Avery loves to grab a hold of while I read. Keeps her happy and focused so it is a win-win. Simple book with simple words but very cute pictures and a neat a concept.
And for Sam, two more Carl R. Sams books. Stranger in the Woods and First Snow in the Woods are both winter themed books that hold true to the Sams style. Pictures are amazing. Stories are adorable, use animals that most kids will be familiar with, incorporate some real information and are fun to read.
And lastly, for me! I recently found The Nature Connection: An Outdoor Workbook for Kids, Families and Classroom, by Clare Walker Leslie. Even though it says workbook, which it is and I am not good about actually using, I bought it just because the first few pages were chalked full of neat ideas and great information. Once I got it home and actually started looking at it I became even more intrigued!
The bulk of this book focuses on a monthly nature journal/workbook that is broken down by month! Now seeing as I am currently living in Wisconsin (home to Aldo Leopold), work at the Aldo Leopold Nature Center and have grown to LOVE the Sand County Alamanac (if you don't know this references I STRONGLY encourage you to look them up!) the idea of one day keeping a monthly nature journal with my girls is awesome to me! So I think until we can do this workbook in its entirety (that will be years from now as there is lots of writing and drawing involved) I will simply steal ideas from it that I can do on our own throughout the year. But if you have older kids that love being outside, writing, drawing or being little mini scientists this book is a must! So glad that I found it to add to my ever growing library of resources.

The Nitty Gritty!
These reviews are just because I love these books. Not being compensated in anyway and I bought all the books myself.
But if anyone knows of a green or nature related publishing company that would be interested in having another mommy reviewer please send them my way! Winter is a great time to be indoors reading good books!
I stand by my word - you are reliably helpful when it comes to finding good books!
