My daughter woke me up this morning by saying "Mommy I am itchy!" I compassionately ignored her and got her situated with her morning juice and cereal. She didn't bring it up again so I thought nothing of it.
We went about our morning and got ready to head back to Governor Nelson State Park to do some exploring, digging in rotten logs and beach combing. But then we got dressed and I saw this. (okay the picture is completely out of focus but you can still see what I am talking about!)
No she does not have chicken pox those are mosquito bites! Apparently they can bite through clothes and really went after her while we were playing in the mud!
Oh yeah, her face and neck are covered too!
So I just couldn't imagine taking her into the woods, to sit and dig in logs and face more mosquitoes. The open area and running around at the dog park seemed like a better idea.
Mosquito free time to chase butterflies, meet new dogs and chase after our dog Polly.
See that water behind them...yup, Polly ended up in the there!
Sam got to do her first "rock climbing" down to the water to help me get Polly out.
But the day was really all about Avery (who thankfully did not get any mosquito bites)!
Her first time in the backpack! Now we are ready for some serious hiking or maybe just a little more exploring in places that are not stroller friendly. Come on, I do still have a two year who whines after walking one block!

The Nitty Gritty!
Am I the only parent that didn't know mosquitoes could bite through clothes? How did this happen? I get their purpose in the whole cycle of things, but seriously those bugs drive me crazy.
Not much else to expand upon today. Outside time is always great and today I got to not only get my girls outside playing, but my dog also some exercise! I was a good mom to all of my girls!!
my son got pretty badly bitten when we first moved to the woods. I learned that a Bounce dryer sheet will keep them away; we tuck them in our pockets before we go out.

Oh my gosh! I showed my husband that picture of her back and he winced. Mosquitoes love him, too. I don't usually get bit up. And no...I didn't know that they will bite through clothes. Yuck!

poor thing! That looks awful!! I think I did know they could get through clothes but it just seems like some kids are more apt to get bit than others. Poor thing!!

aww...poor girl. I can be in a group of 10 people and I will be the only one to get bit...and I'm not talking about 1 bite...lots and lots of them. Brianna is the same way...she has been having bad reactions to them this summer...they get the size of silver dollars. No fun at all! Hope Sam feels better soon!!

how funny in not a ha-ha fashion, but in a strange fashion...as we have had the mosquito bites not to be confused with chicken pox...
that same camping trip with the cloth diapers in the cold temperatures sleeping in a tent...was the same camping trip that both my boys' were chewed up by what some call the alaska state bird~~mosquitoes...however one boy had it worse than the other...so we thought chicken pox...we even put them both in the bath tub w/ oatmeal to keep the scratching down...fortunately the doctor was at the village clinic, so we were able to find out that we had bites not the pox. and yes they bit right through the boys' clothes...i am not very empathetic or sympathetic with the mosquito!
i hope your babe is feeling better soon & ready to tackle the outdoors! ♥ ♥

oo ouch poor girlie!! I didn't know they could bite through clothes.. I mean I guess that explains some of the bug bites I have gotten but I never put 2 and 2 together!

Oh poor babe. I get eaten alive in a similar fashion. I try to be at peace with nature, but mosquitoes and I just don't get along. They have bitten through my clothes too. I don't think they bite through denim but it's too hot for that right. Here's hoping she recovers fast!
