Doesn't she seem thrilled to be having her picture taken first thing in the morning? This was before the mess really got going! I have to help quite a bit with the spreading of the peanut butter but she was pretty good at rolling the pine cones in the bird seed.
Then later we hung all of our creations up in the same tree as the bird house.
I also found this other little recycle paper heart bird feeder thing that I hung up too. You never know what might attract the birds! I really want one to come and live in Sam's birdhouse. I just know that she would freak out!
So, hopefully the FIVE bird feeders that we hung up in ONE little tree will send a big enough message to the birds. Sam continued to call them today, "Here birdie, birdie, birdie!" trying to get them to come to the tree.

The Nitty Gritty!
This activity is everywhere so not sure where to give the credit. I have never seen these in action before so I will keep you posted about how well they hold up and if the birds actually like them. I used creamy peanut butter, not sure if that matters, and smaller finch-type bird seed, also don't know if that matters.
If the weather turns wet and the pine cones close up I am not sure how that will effect the peanut butter and bird seed (did you know that pine cones can tell you the weather? even off the tree they close up in cooler, wet weather and then open back up in dry, warmer weather...fascinating!). It may also rain tonight which could turn the whole thing into a wet peanut butter mess all over the yard!!
We shall see...
i remember watching them do this on barney, so you should probably give him credit.

We make those every year - messy but fun, and the birds always do find them! :)
