The Nitty Gritty!
Raking leaves is a fairly common fall chore that must be done. Why not involve the kids? Yes, it might take longer or not get finished in one day at all (hence the two rakes still sitting in our front yard as I type this) but it is outside time, shows them yard maintenance, is good exercise and can be a lot of fun if you let them go crazy in the piles you create.
My girls love raking leaves. Well, they love playing in the piles that I rake! We did buy Sam a small rake of her own and she does know how to use it. She helps for a little while but then she just can't help herself. She has to jump.
Try and get your kids involved with all the fall chores and winter prep going on around them. It helps them to understand the changing of the seasons, the changes in their house and routine. It may make the chores take longer but the benefit to the kids can and will out weigh the extra time!
