This month's challenge (since many of you have probably just found me and have no idea what I am talking about!) was all about food (check out the monthly challenge page on the sidebar for more details).
The idea behind these monthly challenges is for us to all step outside our comfort zone just a little bit to do something or try something with our kids that we might not normally do. I am hoping that parents and educators out there will find a way to do the monthly challenge with their kids, take pictures and then send me updates (words and pictures) about how it went. I can then share the stories on here so that everyone can get even more ideas about great things to do with their kids and see the other readers in action!
So far the idea is not catching on. I didn't have anyone participate in this month's challenge. Or if they did they didn't let me know about it. I am a bit bummed. But not defeated yet. I will give this idea another chance!!
But before we move on to next month I want to fill you all in on our food encounters from this month!
We picked our own strawberries.
And we have taken care of and harvested our own tomatoes and basil (peppers are yet to come).
It has been really fun watching Sam get use to eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, talk with farmers, pick her own food and work with us in the kitchen. I cannot wait for us to have our own more extensive garden next year so that she can really get involved and know where her food comes from.
Are your kids already actively involved with their food? How do you teach them about food, food choices and where food comes from?
The Nitty Gritty!
Some of these challenges may not be a real stretch for some of you but some months they might really push you out of your comfort zone! I would love to hear feedback about what it takes to get people involved with a blog, how to run challenges or contests and what people like for prizes!
Check back tomorrow for the August Monthly challenge!
